The American Society for Anesthesiologists is the national professional organization of certified nurse anesthesiologists in the U.S. The organization has over 53,000 registered members, has certified, licensed, and certified student members, and has a Board of Directors comprised of highly recognized anesthesiologist professionals. The society offers numerous continuing education programs and provides support for continuing professional education (CPE) and continuing education credit programs for its members.
nurses} Among the programs offered by the society are continuing education for nurses, nurse continuing education credits, nurse continuing education for anesthesiologists, nurse continuing education for nurse practitioners, nurse continuing education for nurse midwives, nurse continuing education for nurse practitioners, and nurse continuing education for nurse practitioners. Nursing continuing education provides important training for nurses so that they can become certified to do further advanced nursing practice. The courses that may be offered include: Physician's Assistant (PA), Podiatrist, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). All these courses and many more will help nurses advance their careers and provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to treat patients effectively.
In addition, aana continues its mission to “educate and empower” the nursing community by helping to sponsor the National Continuing Education Week. In this regard, the society sponsors National Clinical Practice Day, an annual national day in which all U.S. hospitals honor their nurses who participate in continuing professional development activities. Also, it provides continuing nursing education awards for its member hospitals, and sponsors continuing nursing education programs for various colleges and universities.
Among the courses aana offers its members are: Certified Nursing Anesthesiologist (CRNA) Examination, CRNA Exams for CRNA Practitioners, CRNA Continuing Education Units (CEU) (Nursing Associate), CRNA Continuing Education Units (CEU) (Nursing Manager), CRNA Continuing Education Units (CEU) (Anesthesiology) and CRNA Continuing Education Units (CEU) (Elective). All of these courses are designed to provide continuing professional education for nurses who want to move forward as an anesthesia specialist. Additionally, the society offers Continuing Professional Development Credits (CPD) for its members to help increase their earning potential and expand their knowledge of the healthcare field. The courses that are offered in aana are: Certified Nurse Assistant-Anesthesiology Continuing Education, Registered Nurse (RN) Continuing Professional Development, Nurse Practitioner Continuing Professional Development, Registered Nurse (RN) Continuing Professional Development, Nurse Practitioner CEU, Nurse Practitioner CPE, Registered Nurse CPE, Nurse Practitioner Elective, Certified Nurse Practitioner (CRN) and RN/CRNA (CRNA) Continuing Professional Development, Nurse Practitioner Elective and CPE.
Aana also sponsors the NCLEX-PNHP National Computerized Licensing Examination, . . . . . . which is a nationally recognized examination that is administered by the state boards of pharmacy for registered pharmacists and physician assistants. It is designed to certify candidates who wish to become pharmacists and physician assistants. Its accreditation is based on a consensus of both the American Board of Clinical Pharmacy and the Accreditation Council for Allied Health Schools and Programs (ACAP).
The society is also a member of the National Organization of Boards of Pharmacy Examiners (NOBERS). Its board of directors is comprised of an equal number of members from each state and jurisdiction. Each state and jurisdiction have its own bylaws that are reviewed periodically to assure continued quality standards.
In addition, the society has its website where member nurses, medical professionals, physicians, and others who work in a clinical setting can access a wide variety of resources. Among the services offered are webinars, newsletters, information about the organization, and access to member discounts and special promotions. AANA also sponsors a national conference every two years. This conference offers both pharmaceutical and medical industry professionals the opportunity to interact and share information, which helps make the profession more attractive and lucrative to employers.
In order to ensure continued compliance with NRP standards, the organization publishes a periodic publication entitled “Nrp Guide.” The publication provides information regarding the current regulatory structure and the requirements of the NCRPC. Aana has been recognized as one of the best publications on NRP compliance.
