The Master's in Leadership Degree is a four-year degree offered by an accredited university. It is not a replacement for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. However, with a Master's in Leadership degree, an individual can gain the skills and training necessary to develop into a successful leader.
In addition to the general education and learning that is typical with any degree, masters in leadership provide students with an additional educational opportunity. The programs offered in this field are highly specialized and offer students a solid foundation to become successful leaders in the corporate world.
Students enroll in the program when they have already earned their bachelor's degree and are ready to move on to an academic program. Some students will begin at an introductory level or a master's degree, and others will begin at a graduate level and progress from there. An individual must have a Bachelor's of Arts or Science from an accredited institution and have completed a minimum of two years of college study to enroll in a Masters of Leadership Degree program.
Students who wish to go on to a PhD will have a slightly different experience, but will still be pursuing a degree in the field. With a Master's Degree in Management, students can take classes on leadership or research leadership theories. The major in Leadership, also known as the MBA of Leadership, offers more specific curriculum and training in the managerial realm, including leadership theories, leadership development, and leadership consulting.
Students completing the program will receive a Bachelor of Science in Management, a Master's in Science in Business Administration, a Master's in Business Administration with a specialty in Leadership and also an MS in Business. A MS in Business also allows students to specialize in a specific area of leadership. The MS in Leadership has been defined by the National Association of Schools of Business (NASS) as a program that has been specifically developed to train leaders in a particular area such as leadership for businesses. This program has been established to train leaders who are committed to making a positive impact in the business community. By offering both business management and leadership degree, NASS says that students will be able to use the knowledge of business management to contribute to business management as well as a leader.
The program offers both a full-time Masters in Business Management and a part-time Masters of Business Management, and the Master's of Leadership Degree. Most business management programs will require students to complete the Master's in Business Administration, with a specialty in Leadership.
