Morehouse College is the exclusive historically black college in Atlanta, Georgia that has been a home to countless generations of students. Located on the Atlanta-Sandy Springs Metropolitan Park District, the school has a number of academic buildings and residential facilities east of Atlanta along the Ashford Hills shopping complex.
The school was founded in 1867 by William J. Simmons and John Taylor, and it was the first institution of higher learning for black students in the U.S. Today, more than forty years later, Morehouse is considered one of the premier colleges in the country and is known for offering a variety of programs in the liberal arts.
The first major course of study at Morehouse is Black History, which covers a wide range of subjects covering the evolution of the United States from its founding to the present day. There are also specialized programs in various fields such as music, African American literature, African studies, philosophy, psychology, history, and education. The major is broken up into five major areas: African American Studies, History of African Americans, Women and Gender Studies, Public Health, and Social Justice.
For those who wish to enroll in Morehouse, it will be necessary to complete a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences at the college. A minimum score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language is required, and all students must have completed their high school studies.
An online degree program is available for students who would like to earn a Master of Science, Doctorate, or PhD. Students should first complete a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences program with a GPA of 3.5 or better. Once a student has successfully earned their degree, they may choose from a number of master's degree programs.
The Masters degree programs offered at Morehouse include MBA, MSW, MSTP, MSHPS, and PHD. The MBA degree is designed for students interested in business, management, and accounting, while the MSW program is intended for students interested in health care or other related areas of the humanities and social sciences. The MSHPS degree is designed for those with a bachelor of science degree in a specified field and requires both a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree.
The doctoral program offered by Morehouse is a Master of Arts in Health Science, which is a program meant to be completed in two years. After completing this program students may choose to go on to earn a Doctorate of Health Science in Human Resources, or a Doctorate of Health Science in Administration.
Students in the Masters degree program will take classes on topics such as African American studies, philosophy, psychology, social justice, law, government, history, and statistics. . . . . . . Other offerings include business, legal, human services administration, public policy, and other relevant programs.
To obtain a Master of Arts degree at Morehouse, students will need to complete an online Master of Arts in Health Science degree program. The program consists of twelve quarters of coursework including four semesters, or two years. Students will complete their requirements during their junior year and senior year at Morehouse College.
In addition to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs, students can choose from many career options. Some careers include teaching, research, and counseling, business administration, and marketing, medical assisting and administration, healthcare administration, administrative assistant positions, and many other administrative and supervisory positions, and other occupations related fields.
When a student is ready to move on to the next level in their studies, they may enroll in an online Bachelor's degree program or online Master's degree program. Both of these programs provide students with the opportunity to earn either a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Morehouse College.
Additional opportunities exist for students to earn a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Human Services Administration. These online bachelor's programs give students additional opportunities to advance in a particular field and gain experience in a specific area.
