York College is an online college in Jamaica in New York City, United States. It's an independent college within the City University of New York (City University of New York) system. Founded in 1966, it is the second independent college established under the newly created CUNY system. Founded as an eight-year college, the campus is located in Jamaica, a suburb of Queens in New York. The students are enrolled in degree programs that range from Bachelor of Science to Bachelor of Fine Arts.
The students of York College are encouraged to take classes at their own pace and to be able to work when they want, where they want. The student body consists of many different racial and ethnic backgrounds, with the major purpose being for the students to develop a community that can achieve mutually beneficial results. They also strive to create an environment of respect and equality and promote a sense of community.
Many students are encouraged to pursue their degrees on campus by making small contributions to the students' own projects. These students are given the opportunity to meet other students with similar interests who are also looking to obtain their degrees. These relationships are important to the students, since they will then have people who they can discuss their studies with and they will also have a greater understanding of their own peers and what they expect out of their future lives. Many students who live in the dorms or apartments are often encouraged to contribute to the projects of other students and they often find it to be a fulfilling experience.
The students at York College have access to an internship program called the “Summer School.” These are one-week courses that focus on certain areas of the campus. The students spend one week learning about the culture and history of Jamaica and the next week they learn about the history of science and mathematics. There is usually a requirement that the students participate in a group project and this is why they need to get involved and not just wait for the semester to end and take it easy because there is so much to do and so many classes to take.
Students participate in group activities such as debates, discussions, workshops and field trips. This is another way for the students to learn more about themselves and others, while having fun and getting to know one another.
The students have access to the services and resources of the academic adviser who is usually available by phone or chat and the service of the office staff and a library. The university is . . . . . . committed to providing the student with the same kind of service and respect that he would receive in any other academic environment.
Most of the students who attend York College are women. The students are mostly single, but the majority of them are interested in finding love and companionship through relationships that will last a lifetime.
